Post #5 13-15 from the perspective of Aunt Alexandra

First thing I said was come get my bags calpurnia, I had no interest in their housekeeper and I thought that she wasn't right for the Finch family. But for now she was going to take my bags into the livingroom and set them down as I welcomed my neice and nephew in. I told them the good news about me staying with them. They had seemed so excited for my plan of being a mother like figure to them.
It was my turn to take a stand in Scout and Jems life. They both needed a mother like figure around them, Jem needed to learn how to be a gentlemen and Scout definatly needed major work on her clothing and manners.It was basically time for them to emerge into a more mature level. Lets just say that the two needed a women in their life and for Scout it wasn't going to be their "housekeeper" Calpurnia. What did she have to teach them about, I mean I was the one with the real skills of raising a child. I knew that I had to show them how to be a Finch and fast.
As I was staying with my brother, I had gotten along with everyone in the town and everyone knew me so well while I was there. I would have some of our neighbors come over for tea and possibly for supper just to be nice and let everyone get to know me and know that I was going to be apart of Maycomb for a while. After supper one day, Scout had come down to confront Atticus about something. She had started talking about how she had gone to church with Calpurnia and how that was before I was seen on their front porch. As soon as I heard her start talking about Calpurnia I had to listen in on where she was heading with this conversation. As she went on about Calpurnia she had brought up that she wanted to go over to Cal's house one day and spend then night. As soon as I heard Atticus say that it was ok I jumped right up and disagreed immediatly, there was no way I was going to let her go practically on the other side of town with her. I could not let her go, I was fighting with Atticus of why she should not do this, I was reminding him that I was supposed to be her motherly figure and not Calpurnia. It seemed liek scout tried to antagonize me alot with Cal and going over to her house as if she knew I did not like her being near her or even around her. She had almost seemed like she had some type of infallible sense to herself that I couldn't honestly describe.
I had come to this town for a reason and that was to help Jem and Scout and not Calpurnia. I argued against Atticus and just told him that he should fire this women, that it seemed as if Scout was becoming connected with this women which was not making me happy at all. I now realized why scout acted this way, its because Atticus isn't as tough as he should be.
As Scout went upstairs I went to my room and listened in on the kids they would talk at times as if I was completely oblivious to their talking. But I left them talking until a certain bed time. As the night went on it got more quiet and quiet so finally I went to bed and that was the end of that.
