Journal #2- Chapters 4-7 from the perspective of Dill

Dill’s Journal
I couldn’t believe that school was almost over and time to get on my way back to see Scout and Jem again. Finally we could get back to playing again and going in the tree-house like last summer. That’s all I really thought about that year in school was thinking of all the ideas that we could do when I would go over there.
It was the last day of school, I had already known that Jem and Scout were out of school and all I thought of was I wish my school could be like theirs. I was so anxious for my train ride over there, although I didn’t really like the fact that I had to go over alone but it was worth it. I was listening to my teacher go on and on about trying not to lose your brain over vacation and read a lot. She mentioned to not try and get into any trouble. I felt like she was tormenting us with our last lectures of the school year
There it was school was out and it was time to get ready to leave for Maycomb, I was on my way to the train station to go catch my train. There it was my train heading for Maycomb; I jumped up right away and had grabbed my seat before anybody else. I was just sitting there playing with my fingers, still thinking about the things we were going to do. Maybe we could go closer to the Radley place and see Boo Radley, I couldn’t be so sure of what we were going to do. I was wondering what Scout and Jem were doing right now , I’d wondered if maybe they would be waiting for me. On the train I had helped the engineer for a little while. I didn’t really do much he just taught me a little bit on how to drive a train, it was actually pretty cool learning about everything on the train
Well I was finally there in Maycomb, Miss Rachel was there waiting for me as soon as I got off she had helped me off the train and we took a taxi to her place. Thank goodness it was near Jem’s and Scout’s place so I could walk over there to go see them right away. As I was walking over there I had passed by the Radley place, nothing really looked different there still the same looks of it.
I went over to the backyard of the house and saw Jem and Scout, I saw them and they both said hi and we already had gotten right into it. I told them all about my train ride and I told them that I was helping the engineer. Jem started asking us what we were going to play, none of us really knew what we wanted to do.
The next day we saw Mr. Radley pass by as we always used to see, we actually figured out what we were going to do right after we had seen him. We were thinking of imitating the Radley’s. What we did was we said that each person was going to be a Radley. Scout didn’t think it was a good idea but we got her to play. Originally we had just started off with a few movements but we had made up dialogue and actions, it wasn’t all that bad. Although one day we had ran into Atticus and he asked what we were doing and he had seemed like he knew because he told us to not do that.
Later on into the summer Jem and I went off on our own everyday in the tree-house planning some way to go to the Radley place. We were making unanimous planning of writing a letter to them and try and throw it into their house. We kept on to our planning when Scout interrupted she was already in there so we just decided to tell her our plan and that we were going to try it that night.
Our plan was off Scout was not so sure about it but she just went with us. We had our letter and a fishing pole to cast it off into their house. We had casted it off and it went pretty close to the house. We had wanted to go in there and try and get it closer to the house. So we went around the school yard fence and went under the fence that belonged to the Radley’s. We were so quiet under there and we had to stay that way. The Radley’s was the one house that you did not want to get caught in because you never know what they would do. Scout said she saw a man standing at the window we got scared that something might happen but then there was someone on the porch. I think he had seen us because there, the gun blew off and we ran out of there so fast but Jem got stuck and had to slip out of his pants. We had made a quick evasion as quick as possible, we had all felt very malignant after that.As soon as we got back to the house we saw a big commotion outside the house of the Radley’s and we knew it was from the gun going off. They were all talking about how he saw something and shot at it but never really got at it.

Then everyone noticed that Jem was not wearing his pants, my eyes widened and Jem had no idea what to say. But I had said that we were playing strip poker instead of him halving to say they got caught because that would not be the right thing. Finally they actually all fell for my lie and we were all off back to our houses and all finished with our long night.
