From Home to Haven
From Home to Haven was basically all about Jewish life, big things that occurred to Jewish people. I learned a few different things about what happened in the past with Jewish community Jewish people in general. I learned a lot of different things about this place, I found out that my inventor that I had chosen for art last semester was actually Jewish, in which case I did not know of. A few different things I learned while I was in the exhibit were: In 1883, Jewish poet Emma Lazarus penned the lines that come to speak to every American Immigrant and that are now inscribed on the base of the "Statue of Liberty." I also learned something about how they contributed to history, Jewish people were the most to help during the Civil Rights Movement. I think that this taught me a lot of different things. Even little things such as earlier on in times a lot of Department stored were owned by Jewiish People. Or the first Jewish person sat in congress in 1841
Children of Immigrants
Picture name: Immigration Rally, Chicago 1998
Response: I like this picture because it shows how the little girl in the picture is looking up to the American Flag like she wants to be a part of America. To me it seems like this was supposed to mean how the little girl wants to live here in America. Or how she wants to be able to do things that she cant where she lived or lives.
Essay name: Paul Tran- The Preuss school UCSD
Response: This esaay was about a lot of immigrantsa have escaped war and about how violence had come to their doorsteps. What immigrants do is they come here for more peace and loving not just because they want to. Its becuase they have had enough of the war going on in their own country.
Quote: "The greatest thing I hope for in my life is to become a successful person and to have family and friends to support me, not to be looked at by just the color of my skin but who I am inside."
Written by: Samira Durakovic, Yugoslavia
Response: I chose this quote because I actually could relate to it in a way and I liked how this person wrote it. I can relate to it because I want to grow up to become a successful person while having the people I love around me to support me and encourage me through it. I think that I can also relate is because I also do not like to be judged by my race just for my own person inside. Like this person said. I thought it encouraged me to go for the highest opportunity and to not care what other people have to say or think about it.
